수원특례시의 대표 먹자골목 ‘화서역 먹거리촌’이 지역 상생 파트너 스타필드와 만나 ‘트렌디한 먹거리 타운’으로 재탄생했다.
신세계프라퍼티는 스타필드 수원이 지난 1년간 진행한 ‘화서역 먹거리촌 아트테리어 프로젝트’를 성공리에 마무리하고, 이를 기념하는 리뉴얼 오프닝 행사를 열었다고 26일 밝혔다.
26일 수원시 팔달구 화서역 먹거리촌 내 점포에서 열린 화서역 먹거리촌 리뉴얼 기념 행사에는 김현수 수원시 제1부시장, 김미경 수원시의회 의원, 송철재 수원시 소상공인연합회 회장, 임기호 화서역 먹거리촌 상인회장, 이형천 신세계프라퍼티 전무, 이영훈 스타필드 수원 점장 등 주요 관계자들이 참석해 새롭게 단장한 점포들을 둘러보며 화서역 먹거리촌의 새출발을 알렸다.
‘화서역 먹거리촌 아트테리어 프로젝트’는 하남 신장시장 시그니처 신메뉴 개발, 덕풍5일장 브랜딩, 안성맞춤시장 리뉴얼, 고양 삼송상점가 리뉴얼에 이은 신세계프라퍼티의 5번째 ‘전통시장 활성화 프로젝트’다. 신세계프라퍼티는 스타필드 하남 오픈 이후 매년 지역의 대표 시장을 찾아 오랜 시간 소상공인들과 소통하고 지역 특성을 면밀히 분석한 맞춤 지원을 통해 지역 상권이 자생력을 갖출 수 있도록 실질적 도움을 주는 ‘전통시장 활성화 프로젝트’를 추진해 오고 있다.
스타필드 수원은 ‘화서역 먹거리촌 아트테리어 프로젝트’를 위해 2023년 1월부터 화서역 먹거리촌 상인회 및 수원특례시와 수십 차례 소통하며 고심한 끝에 프로젝트 목표를 ‘개별 점포 외관 정비를 통한 먹거리촌 타운화’로 도출했다.
프로젝트 초기에는 공용부 브랜딩을 추진했으나, 10년 이상 장기 운영 중인 상점이 40% 이상인 만큼 노후화 점포가 많다는 상권 분석과 함께 점포별 시설 개선이 필요하다는 상인회 의견을 수렴한 것이다.
이후, 아트테리어 디자이너 7명을 공개 모집해 사업 참여 50개 점포 점주들과 매칭하고, 외관 디자인을 협의했다.
참여 점주들과 일대일 상담을 통해 멀리서도 점포 특징을 한눈에 알아볼 수 있도록 시각화한 BI 디자인을 개발하고, 점포명도 세련된 타이포그래피를 적용해 전면 간판 가독성을 높였다. 이와 함께 점포 이미지에 맞는 외벽 색상을 새롭게 적용하고, 불필요한 외부 시트지는 제거해 정돈되고 트렌디한 먹거리 타운 이미지를 구축하는 데 주력했다.
또한, 주방을 효율적으로 활용할 수 있는 공간 컨설팅을 진행, 점주들의 비즈니스 역량 강화를 돕고, 쌀 700가마도 상인회에 기부했다. 향후 프로젝트 홍보 영상 제작 등 마케팅 활동에도 힘쓸 예정이다.
화서역 먹거리촌의 변화에 방문 고객 반응도 뜨겁다. 화서역 먹거리촌 상인회에 따르면 리뉴얼 후 스타필드 수원 오픈과 동시에 약 50개 점포 매출이 많게는 4배까지 증가했다.
리뉴얼 기념식에 자리한 임기호 상인회장은 “단정하고 깨끗해진 상권에 고객 반응도 좋고, 먹거리촌 내 매출도 매장마다 두배 이상씩 신장했다”며 “앞으로도 스타필드와 함께 성장할 수 있도록 먹거리촌도 맛과 서비스 개선에 더욱 노력할 것”이라고 말했다.
먹거리촌 내 한 상인은 “스타필드가 오픈하면 상권과 고객층이 변화할 것이라는 이야기를 믿지 않았는데, 스타필드 방문객이 새롭게 유입되면서 먹거리촌에 활기가 도는 것을 체감하고 있다”며 소감을 밝혔다.
